Flexcon - Integration of a fleet of autonomous robots.

Our solution

As a subcontractor, we integrated a fleet of MIR250 robots at Flexcon. The fleet of mobile robots communicates with the ERP system, the automated storage system and the elevator, which made it possible to fully automate the intralogistics. As part of the integration, we developed a top module for the MIR250 robots that enables efficient and space-saving handling of KLT boxes.

How it works

The MIR250 fleet is deployed in a mode where missions are initiated by the ERP system based on the need to move a unit within the process. A specific robot is then selected to carry out the transfer. In addition, the software connector we developed provides feedback to the ERP system during the robot's mission, so the user always has an overview of the location of stored and transported units. The connector also allows the robots to communicate with the Modula automated storage system and negotiate the pick-up or storage of a specific item as needed. By reading the QR codes on the boxes, the robot also verifies that it is loading the correct box, and if the labeling does not match, it asks the ERP system for new instructions on how to handle the box.

As part of the integration, we also designed and implemented PLC control of the elevator. This allows the robots to move between the floors of the building.

The solution also includes a top module for the MIR250 that enables handling of KLT boxes. Compared to a solution where the robot drives under the box and lifts it from below, the top module offers several advantages:

  1. Space saving - the pick-up point does not need free space underneath for docking the robot. The pick-up points can also be placed right next to each other.
  2. Two pick-up points on top of each other - typically one with a chute from the robot for unloading and one with a chute to the robot for loading boxes.
  3. QR code reading - the top module can read QR codes on the front side of the boxes. This verifies that the robot is loading the correct box and allows it to react properly in case of a mismatch.
  4. Safe transport - because the top module holds the box inside, the likelihood of the box falling out during transport is significantly reduced.
